Steady start for Carless at British Championship opener
The Honda Oakleaf Motorsports team headed north to the sandy based track of Hilton Park that would play host to round one of the Maxxis British Championship.
Qualifying went ok for Shane posting the eightieth quickest time, but with the track being so short it was hard to get a clean lap in.
Race one Shane had a good start and was running within the top ten, a couple mistakes early on saw him drop a back to 14th. After getting his rhythm back Shane made the pass on James Hutchinson and moved into thirteenth.
With Shane not happy with his race one performance he was looking to made amends in race 2. Shane made a good gate coming out in the top ten but on pressing his brake he found it did not work(previously working on sighting lap) and had a big crash which ended his race there and then.
Shane Carless: “First round of the British Championship here at Hilton Park, I’ve done lots of preparation during week. Qualification I was riding really tensed and just worrying really, I managed to get 18th not the best. First race I had a really good start, running around 8th for a couple laps and dropped back to 13th. Second race I was feeling much better much more confident I was hoping for a good result. I came off the start, top ten maybe and went to hit the brake and the brake wasn’t there. I ended up hitting everyone and had big crash and my day ended there”
Oakleaf Motorsport Honda will next be in action on April 5th at Cadders Hill, Lyng.
